Discord: Apps Kids are on in 2023 That Parents Need to Know About Mostly used as a chat app for gamers, think of it like Teams - for gaming. Kids can have live audio and video chats in a game with their friends. Mainly used with Fortnite, Minecraft and Among Us, it makes gaming a more social experience and hit its stride during lockdown to keep gaming social connections alive. Most kids will create their own ‘servers’ where they communicate only with their friends, and you have to be invited and accepted to be there. Because of the gaming element - it’s FULL of swearing and can create unacceptable competitive and bullying behaviour. It’s an annoying pain in the butt for parents to listen to, but in terms of risk, ‘open chat’ is the space where kids can get in trouble inviting unknowns into their private ‘server’.
